About the Role
Position Overview
The Veteran Training Empowerment Center (VTEC) is seeking experienced skilled trades
professionals to serve as Instructor / Service Technicians. This position combines classroom
instruction, hands-on training, mentorship, and field service work. Previous teaching experience
is not required.
Military veterans, apartment maintenance technicians, property maintenance technicians, and
skilled trades professionals are strongly encouraged to apply.
All selected candidates must successfully complete a mandatory two-week Advanced
Instructor & Service Technician Training Program prior to assignment. This training is
required for all new Instructor / Service Technicians and is designed to prepare candidates
to deliver classroom instruction, supervise field training activities, and represent VTEC's
standards of excellence.

Locations: Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, Phenix City, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, and
Anniston, Alabama
Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: VP of Training & Field Operations
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
o Electrical Repair & Troubleshooting
o Plumbing Repair & Troubleshooting
o HVAC Maintenance & Basic Repair (No Freon Experience Required)
o Apartment Maintenance
o Property Maintenance
o Appliance Repair
o General Home Repair & Handyman Services
o Drywall Repair & Patching
o Light Carpentry
o Preventive Maintenance
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability to pass a local and national background check
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Desire to mentor and train othersPrimary Responsibilities
• Deliver classroom and hands-on skills training.
• Supervise students during field-based On-the-Job Training (OJT).
• Perform residential and light commercial service calls.
• Diagnose and repair basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance, and maintenance
issues.
• Mentor students and help prepare them for employment opportunities.
• Complete required training and service documentation.
• Represent VTEC professionally in both classroom and field environments.
• Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
Preferred Qualifications
• Military service experience
• Apartment or property maintenance experience
• Lead technician, supervisory, or mentoring experience
• NCCER, CAMT, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or related certifications
